Bristling with east meets west polytonality and rhythmic intrigue and tinged with a Trane-like spirituality… Blowing gorgeous tones and fluidly unraveling complex ideas…(Brooks) succeeds to a startling and almost rapturous degree.” SAN FRANCISCO BAY GUARDIAN

“His compositions reflect the soul and character of Indian classical music, but open themselves to improvisation and the spontaneous spirit and a load of melodic spice make this album a divine treat.” Allaboutjazz.com review on Summit:Spirit and Spice

Saxophonist and composer George Brooks is acclaimed for successfully bridging the worlds of jazz and Indian classical music. He is the founder of Indian fusion groups Summit, Bombay Jazz, the Raga Bop Trio and Elements.

In 1996, Brooks recorded Lasting Impression, and two years later Night Spinner, for Moment Records. These recordings received wide acclaim as landmarks at the intersection of jazz and Indian classical music. In 2000 Brooks recorded Summit, another ground breaking work of Indian/jazz fusion featuring Zakir Hussain and Journey drummer Steve Smith. Summit performed throughout the US, Europe and Asia. In 2008 Brooks was featured as a soloist on John McLaughlin’s Floating Point CD, recorded in India and nominated for a Grammy award as best contemporary jazz album. In 2010 Brooks released three distinctive recordings; Spirit and Spice, Elements and Raga Bop Trio

With Zakir Hussain, Brooks wrote and arranged the score for the Yo-Yo Ma, Mark Morris collaboration Kolam and the Merchant/Ivory film The Mystic Masseur. He has also arranged and performed with Hussain for the films Parzania, One-Dollar Curry and For Real.

We’ll pour tastes of our wines, and we invite you to bring a picnic. Wine will also be available for purchase by the bottle.

The concert begins at 6pm. We’re open from 5:00 to 8:00. Picnic tables are not available; feel free to bring a blanket to spread on the ground, or beach chairs. Please consider carpooling or bicycling, as parking is very limited.
