Friendly Wood-Turned Gnomes

Gnome, sweet Gnome! Make your own wooden gnome on the lathe!

Gnome, sweet Gnome! These steadfast guardians will spruce up your home and keep it cheerful in any season. In this beginner-friendly hands-on class, you’ll practice spindle woodturning while you create your very own adorable wooden gnome to take home or give as a gift.

You’ll learn:

  • How to prepare a wooden blank for turning
  • How to develop a design for your gnome and translate it to the lathe
  • How to shape your gnome with different types of lathe tools
  • How to sand and finish your gnome

Prerequisites

Introduction to Lathe is suggested, or prior experience spindle turning on a wood lathe, but neither are required.

Dress Code

  • Full length pants and closed-toed shoes
  • Hair ties for longer hair
  • No dangling jewelry or loose clothing

What to Bring

  • We recommend you bring your own safety glasses and hearing protection if possible. Maker Nexus will supply them for students who do not have their own.

Equipment Certifications
This class does not certify attendees to use any Maker Nexus equipment outside of class.
