In 1976, Dr. Thomas Fogarty, noted heart surgeon and medical device innovator, dedicated his 350 acres in the Santa Cruz Mountains to conservation open space under the Williamson Act. By law, the property would need an active agricultural purpose, and after an introduction by fellow Stanford physicians to the wines of Burgundy and local Santa Cruz vintners, Dr. Fogarty was compelled to plant a portion of his land to vine. Pinot noir and chardonnay were naturally suited to the cool climate and in the late 1970s the six core vineyards of the Fogarty state were planted. Today, almost 30 acres under vine are farmed organically, by hand, in small parcels, and the property remains preserved as Heritage Oak and Fir Forest under the Williamson Act.
Please join winemaker Nathan Kandler and Thomas Fogarty Jr. to enjoy a special line-up of wines from the local estate paired with a mouthwatering menu, on our heated outdoor garden dining room.
